LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

“THE CITY OF THORNTON RESPECTFULLY ACKNOWLEDGES THE LAND ON WHICH WE STAND IS THE TRADITIONAL TERRITORY OF THE APACHE, ARAPAHO, CHEYENNE, COMANCHE, KIOWA, LAKOTA, NAVAJO, PUEBLO, SHOSHONE, AND SOUTHERN UTE TRIBES AND NATIONS, WHO WERE THE ORIGINAL STEWARDS OF THIS LAND. WE HONOR THE HISTORY, CULTURE, AND CONTRIBUTIONS BOTH PAST AND PRESENT OF THESE INDIGENOUS NATIONS AND TRIBES.

WE PAY RESPECT TO THEIR ANCESTORS, ELDERS, AND PRESENT-DAY COMMUNITY MEMBERS, AND EXTEND OUR GRATITUDE TO THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES FOR THEIR ONGOING CARE AND STEWARDSHIP OF THE LAND, WATER, AND RESOURCES. WE ALSO RECOGNIZE THE LASTING IMPACT OF COLONIALISM, FORCED REMOVALS, AND CONTINUED INJUSTICES THAT HAVE AFFECTED INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT HISTORY AND INTO THE PRESENT.

WE ALSO ACKNOWLEDGE THE LABOR OF ENSLAVED AFRICANS AND THEIR DESCENDANTS WHO WORKED THIS STOLEN LAND FOR THE COLONISTS, AND WHO CONTINUE TO DISPROPORTIONATELY FACE ECONOMIC OPPRESSION, RACISM, VIOLENCE, AND EXPLOITATION.

MAY THIS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT SERVE AS A REMINDER OF OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO BE MINDFUL AND RESPECTFUL OF THE LAND, ITS HISTORY, AND THE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES WHO CALL COLORADO HOME AND TO USE IT TO GUIDE OUR POLICIES AND DECISION-MAKING FOR THE PEOPLE OF THORNTON.”

An ordinance amending Chapter 46 of the Thornton City Code relating to parks and recreation. (Second Reading)

An ordinance amending Sections 26-57, 26-176, 26-221, 26-226 through 26-228, 26-230, 26-256, and 26-293 of the Thornton City Code to increase purchasing limits established in the Purchasing Ordinance. (First Reading)

A resolution approving an Intergovernmental Agreement among Adams County; Colorado Legal Services; the cities of Westminster, Thornton, Federal Heights, Brighton, Commerce City, Aurora, and Northglenn; and the City and County of Broomfield regarding contributions toward continuation of a Landlord/Tenant Legal Services Program for 2025 and 2026.

A resolution approving the restated Plan Document, Adoption Agreement, and other related documents with Nationwide Financial Services, Inc. to allow for participant loans from the City of Thornton 457 Deferred Compensation Plan.

A resolution approving the First Amendment to the Intergovernmental Agreement between the City and Adams 12 Five Star Schools for provisions of Colorado discharge Permit System Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System – Stormwater Phase II permit services.

A resolution appointing a member to the Thornton Arts, Sciences and Humanities Council Board of Directors.
